Living Room

The formal living room was updated by Robin Bardo between 2017-2020 and repainted with a soft grey color matched from the exterior stone. The fireplace has two hidden cupboards and was updated with gas logs. It was reported to be formerly a Tearoom where the women gathering while the men were at the Bull's Head Tavern. Robin uncovered the women's flagstone walk from the front door of the Tavern to the side entrance door. As the house was built by Quakers, this entrance door features nail work that is designed to ward off evil. There is some dispute on whether the photo of the fireplace centered between two exterior doors is of the living room in the HOMS as the current room has windows on either side of the fireplace. In looking at other identifying features of the home, such as the brick hearth, there are arguments for and against this photo being of the living room in the HOMS.

Amanda + Ernest Brant described the room in a document estimated to be from the 1991 Muncy Home Tour: Years ago, a very appropriate handmade sampler hung on the wall of this room "Little house you're very small - just large enough for Love, that's all." There are two double faced doors  - here on the lane side and another outside door on the second floor. Both have nail heads in the form of a "halo" supposedly to keep out the evil spirits. Notice the worn steps and squeaky floors as you go upstairs.

Bruce Saunders; owner of HOMS from 2000 to 2017 describes the room in his historical accounting dated 2016Parlor: Like the Bull's Head Tavern Room, this was part of the 2nd addition, up a short flight of stairs from the Tavern Room and old Kitchen Room. Presumably meals would have been cooked in the kitchen and served here during Tavern and Tearoom days. The door to the outside is original, and the lock is hand-forged hardware, as is that throughout the house. (Note the circle of nails outlining a cross in the parlor door, said to ward off spirits; one is also present on the door upstairs.
